The Path to Medicine Isn’t Linear—And That’s the Point
Most people assume the path to medicine is linear. It isn’t. For me, it began with something personal—seeing up close what it takes to live with a chronic condition. The discipline, the uncertainty, the resilience. That experience stayed with me and shaped how I think about patient care to this day. I took the MCAT in 2004—#2 pencil, paper booklet, a very different era. But the core motivation hasn’t changed. Medicine, at its best, is about solving real problems for real people. Years of training refine your skills, but it’s those early human experiences that define how you show up—for patients, for families, and for your team. Today, as a plastic surgeon, I focus on restoring form, function, and confidence. But the underlying principle remains the same: meaningful impact starts with understanding the person in front of you. For those considering medicine—focus on the “why.” The rest is built over time. #Medicine #PhysicianLeadership #Healthcare #PlasticSurgery #MedicalCareer #MedSchool #MCAT #PatientCare #Leadership #ProfessionalDevelopment
