Stop Using the Wrong Injectable

Most patients think Botox and fillers are interchangeable—they’re not.

They solve fundamentally different problems.

Botox works at the level of muscle activity. It reduces dynamic rhytids caused by repetitive contraction—classically the glabella, frontalis, and lateral orbicularis oculi.

Dermal fillers address volume loss and structural support. They are used to restore contours in the midface, lips, jawline, and to soften static lines present at rest.

A simple framework:

Movement-driven lines ? Botox

Volume loss or static lines ? Fillers

In practice, optimal outcomes often require a combination approach. Treating only one dimension—either movement or volume—frequently leads to suboptimal or unnatural results.

The goal is not elimination of expression, but restoration of balance.

This is where technique, restraint, and anatomic precision matter.

If you’re evaluating treatment options, the key question isn’t “Botox or filler?”—it’s “What is the underlying cause of the aging change?”
