How painful is breast augmentation recovery?
Hi, I’m Dr. Ethan Baughman, a board-certified plastic surgeon in Westlake Village, California.
Many people assume breast augmentation recovery is extremely painful, but for most patients, it’s actually much more manageable than expected.
Most women describe the feeling as tightness, pressure, or soreness in the chest, similar to an intense chest workout. The first 48 to 72 hours tend to be the most uncomfortable, but modern surgical techniques, long-acting local anesthetics, and careful implant placement make recovery significantly easier than it used to be.
Most of my patients are walking around the same day, returning to light activities within a few days, and feeling much better within about a week.
Of course, everyone heals differently, but overall breast augmentation is generally considered one of the easier cosmetic surgery recoveries.
If you’re considering breast augmentation and want to understand what recovery would look like for you, schedule a consultation and we can go over your options.
